fast facts: i'm a self-proclaimed food connoisseur, i eat proscuitto like it's candy, i know a scary amount of song lyrics, Tuesdays with Morrie will forever be my favorite book, and i can name the 50 states in alphabetical order in less than 30 seconds thanks to my third grade teacher.

My name is Andie Horowitz and I am a sophomore studying Political Science with a minor in Writing at the University of Michigan. I am also a 20-year-old female with a wide array of passions, ranging from politics to pop culture to gender studies. My most pervasive interest has been a core part of me for as long as I remember— my love of language. Since discovering my enthusiasm for writing in eighth grade, it has grown into an asset that has stayed with me and transformed almost all aspects of my life. It has also allowed me to combine my interests in unique ways through various mediums and platforms. 

Throughout high school, I searched for different opportunities to get involved with extracurriculars focused on writing. This led me to participate in my school's political newspaper, The Millburn Observer, for which I was a writer for two years and an editor during my senior year. The experience was extremely rewarding and served as a key indicator to continue pursuing similar interests in college. Because of my past experience with journalism, I applied for and earned the position of columnist within the Statement section of The Michigan Daily.  My column ran biweekly with articles focused on human interest stories including feminism and gender norms, with the style of the pieces ranging from personal to satirical essays. After working for the Daily as both a columnist and contributor, I earned my current position as the Managing Editor of the Statement. I am additionally the Editor-In-Chief of the Michigan Fashion Media Summit, an organization that has traditionally focused on fashion. Due to my passions, I have expanded the publication’s concentration to explore concepts where fashion and policy intersect, such as sustainability.
